Canada Day July 1/ 2026

Canada Day (FrenchFête du Canada), formerly known as Dominion Day (FrenchFête du Dominion), is the national day of Canada. A federal statutory holiday, it celebrates the anniversary of Canadian Confederation which occurred on July 1, 1867, with the passing of the British North America Act, 1867, when the three separate colonies of the United CanadasNova Scotia, and New Brunswick were united into a single dominion within the British Empire called Canada.[1][2] Originally called Dominion Day (FrenchLe Jour de la Confédération), the holiday was renamed in 1982, the same year that the Canadian constitution was patriated by the Canada Act, 1982.[3] Canada Day celebrations take place throughout the country, as well as in various locations around the world attended by Canadians living abroad.[4]

I hope you are all attending the CK Events taking place this year in Chatham-Kent. Wallaceburg and Blenheim both have Canada Day celebrations on Wednesday July 1. Don't forget the Chatham Concert Band is in Tecumseh Park on Wednesday evenings. Check CK events for detail. The Red Barn Brewery just outside of Blenheim is having a special Canada Day event from 12-5 P.M. with music, vendors, food trucks and craft beer. Sounds like a good time to me.
Enjoy the many family picnics and celebrations in the area this weekend. Happy Canada Day for our home to yours.
