The area farmers have been busy this summer and continue to harvest their crops in this great October weather. The corn and the beans are coming off and the farmers are taking advantage of the warm temperatures. We are so fortunate to live in this great agricultural area and have access to fresh produce.
Chatham-Kent is a #1 producer.
Chatham-Kent produces about 20% if all vegetables grown in Ontario. We are the 2nd largest producer of sugar beets and brussel sprouts In Canada and the 2nd largest producer of field peppers and asparagus in Ontario. If you take a car ride at this time of the year you will come across several road-side stands offering fresh fruits and vegetables. Cedar Springs offers several kinds of berries and fresh apples from the orchards. My wife and I had lunch last Sunday at the blueberry farm near Thamesville and of course had to bring home a sampling of their fresh baked goods. If you have never been there you are in for a treat.
