Mitchell's Bay Marina
It is back and this year promise to be bigger and better. The Canadian Tire Mitchell’s Bay Open Bass Tournament has always been a very popular event for Chatham-Kent. The Mitchell’s Bay Marine Park plays host to the weigh-ins and will be a hub-bub of activity all weekend with boat arriving from all over the country. Last year the event took place without spectators and with some restrictions due to Covid but this year it is back to normal. A total of 95 boats are scheduled to hit the water on July 8 with 190 Boats arriving for TournamentParticipants. Included this year are 3 well-known anglers. Blenheim natives Bob and Wayne Izuma and Canadian Tournament angler David Chong will be attending. There is an evening with Bob Izuma planned on July 6 at Sons of Kent, one of the event sponsors and sponsors are invited to the closed event as well as municipal staff and councillors. This  weekend is a real win for our area. Many of the participants spend a week in Chatham-Kent pre-fishing and enjoying our great community as the majority of participants are not local. Lake St. Clair is famous for its bass fishing and of course the $40,000 prize money is a real draw. The goal is to return the fish back into the lake at the end of each day.
Canadian Tire is back sponsoring the Kids Fishing Day. 20 fortunate youngsters will get a morning of fishing, lunch with their families, and an adventure hike with the Sydenham Field Naturalists. Each of the participants go home with a rod, reel, tackle box and tackle. The Angles dinner takes place July 7. The Bay will be hopping. Take a ride out and enjoy the sites.
