August Holiday Weekend Aug 2/25 Chatham-Kent

Saturday August 2nd is a busy day in Kent County. If it is shopping or entertainment you are looking for, we have you covered. Erieau is holding “Art on the Boulevard” from 9A.M. until 4 P.M. and the Celebration for Emancipation Day at the Josiah Hensen Museum of African-American History in being held in Dresden from 11A.M -2 P.M. 
 
Erieau is a beautiful resort on the shores of Lake Erie with a boulevard running down the centre of the Village. (at one time railway tracks) This year marks the 14th year for this great event. If you have not attended before, this is the year to enjoy all the day has to offer. It will feature 100 artists showing their wares of everything from metal works to a multitude of craft items. Food, music and shopping. St.Paul's Anglican church will be hosting a perch and fries lunch until 2 P.M. and the Yacht Club will hold a barbeque with peameal bacon on a bun, hotdogs and hamburgers. The D.A.M. band will be performing in the gazebo opposite the Fire Hall. There are also several restaurants in the village to stop and enjoy a meal, also the Bayside Brewery to eat and sample their unique brews.

The Josiah Henson Museum of African-American History in Dresden is celebrating Emancipation Day on Saturday August 2 . August 1 celebrates the day in 1834 when 800 slaves were freed and slavery was abolished in the U.S.  It  a particularly special day in Chatham-Kent since Reverend Josiah Henson and other abolitionists established the Dawn Settlement in Dresden which included farms, mills and a vocational training school for many of the freed slaves.
This yearly event features music, live performances, guest speakers, food and fun for the whole family. Bring your lawn chairs. If you have not visited this Chatham-Kent Historical site you are in for a treat and some great education about the Black History in our community. Explore the museum and it powerful stories and photo exhibit.
