Chatham's Northside Neighborhoods

Chatham's North side has grown considerably in the last 50 years. My wife grew up in the 1950's and 60's on St. Clair St. north of McNaughton Ave. In those day very little commercial existed. There was a small commercial mall at the corner of St. Clair (#40 Hwy) heading out of town toward Wallaceburg. The government subdivided some of the properties on either side of St. Clair up to Gregory Dr.to the north into VLA half acre lots. Modest homes were built by the veterans and this subdivision continued to grow to the East to Victoria Ave. Farm land occupied the land past Gregory Dr. and Paxton's Bush was located on the west side of St. Clair St. Ext.with a creek running through it.
Today the landscape is very different. On the north corners of McNaughton Ave. and St. Clair St. you will find everything from a Shopper's Drug Mart, a Bank, Discount Stores, a Bulk Food Store, and a Grocery Store as well as several fast food franchises and local restaurants on either side of the street. The MaplesContinuing out St. Clair Ext., Paxton's Bush is now the location of "The Maples" with its middle to upper end single family dwellings and the New Kingston Park, a favorite destination for families in Chatham and surrounding areas with its Splash Pad, Large Playground and Picnic Grounds.
Kingston Park  Birdland behind Thames Lea Mall and the Maples are the more established neighborhoods in the North Chatham area. The newer Prestancia Subdivision which has several specific areas is bordered by McNaughton Ave. West and the Bear Line Rd. There are single family dwellings, as well as areas with lovely condos and townhouses. There is a French Separate School and other schools and churches of various denominations in close proximity.
St. Angela Merici School  A new Elementary Separate School, St. Angela Merici is completed and will replace some of the smaller schools with French Immersion moving from John Uyen on Lark St. to the newly renovated formerly Our Lady of Fatima School on Baldoon Rd. The latest building phase
New Homes along Bear Line Rdhas taken place at the North end of the subdivision and extend to Bear Line Rd. with single family dwelling under construction.
Not only have the neighborhoods increased substantially but several parcels of farmland have been sold on the north end of St. Clair St. to accommodate a Walmart, a Super Store,Winners, Mark's wearhouse, a Home Depot, Boston Pizza a Galaxy, State of the Art Movie Theatre, a Michael's Store. and many other retail business' as well as coffee shops and fast food restaurants.
The north side is very family friendly with all its ammenities but there are several areas in Prestancia which are very popular with the Baby Boomer Generation who have decided to retire, downsize or relocate to something with less upkeep. The Beautiful Townhouses and Condos in this popular convenient area are just what they are looking for.
Chatham's North end is definitely on the move with continual new construction taking place. Call Wayne Liddy 519-436-4810 Royal LePage Peifer Realty Inc. Brokerage and let him show you Real Estate for sale in this choice location.
