It is back and this year promise to be bigger and better. The Canadian Tire Mitchell’s Bay Open Bass Tournament has always been a very popular event for Chatham-Kent. The Mitchell’s Bay Marine Park plays host to the weigh-ins and will be a hub-bub of activity all weekend with boat arriving from all over the country. Close to 100 boats and 200 participants are scheduled to hit the water on July 11 and July 12th.
Many of the participants spend a week in Chatham-Kent pre-fishing and enjoying our great community as the majority of participants are not local. Lake St. Clair is famous for its bass fishing and of course the $50,000 prize money is a real draw. The goal is to return the fish back into the lake at the end of each day. The Kids Fishing Day is back. Participants, ages 8-11 will get a morning of fishing under the guidance of boat captains, angler coaches and MBAA volunteers, an adventure hike with the Sydenham Field Naturalist and a barbeque with the opportunity to witness the catch and release which is a big part of the Tournament. Each of the participants go home with their own fishing gear. The kick off will be the Angles dinner Thursday July 9 and the fishing begins Friday July 10-11/26. The Bay will be a hub of activity this weekend. Come out and enjoy the un.
