Municipality of Chatham-Kent

Chatham-Kent is the largest Municipality in South Western Ontario and the 12th largest in Canada.

.In 1998 the County of Kent and the City of Chatham were amalgamated to form the Muncipality. It is the home of the Affordable Lifestyle. The Thames River runs through Chatham KentChatham Kings St. Boat Docks to Lake St. Clair while the Sydenham River flows through Wallaceburg and Dresden. Chatham-Kent is located in the middle of the Great Lakes and has several Kilometers of shoreline along Lake Erie and St. Clair making it desirable waterfront community.

Its location produces mild temperatures and is often referred to as the  Banana Belt of Ontario. As a result, we have 9 area Golf Courses and the golfing season usually extends to 9 months

The Municipality is home to several historical sites. The Battle of the Thames, an Historical Battle between the British and the Americans on October 4/1813 during the war of 1812 took place on the banks of the Thames River near Historic Downtown Kings St. in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent is steeped in Black History. Uncle Tom's Cabin near Dresden which was a Uncle Tom's Cabin Dresdensafe haven for many slaves who escaped from the US. The village of North Buxton was the location of the largest black population of freed slaves after the Civil war and is still the location of the Labor Day Homecoming weekend which bring visitors from all over the country. There are many interesting Museums and original sites to visit.

Chatham is also the Classic Car Capitol of Canada

and there are several car events that take place in the summer months beginning with

King St. Chatham for Retofest Weekendwhen over 600 Classic Cars converge on Chatham for a Friday night parade and a display along King St. on Saturday. Don't miss it! What for my Blog on dates for 2020.
